San Juan Island is a well preserved community tucked between Seattle, Vancouver B.C. and Victoria B.C. It’s a year-round destination, accessible only by ferry or seaplane. Nestled in the center of a “rain shadow” cast by the Olympic Mountains, San Juan Island enjoys nearly 250 days of sunshine each year and only half the annual rainfall of Seattle, making it a place where kayaking, biking and walking are as common as driving. With a natural grandeur that combines salty breezes, vibrant blue water, pebbled beaches and fragrant woods, San Juan Island is a rare, unspoiled retreat where many from the mainland come to “de-caffeinate”. Visitors can easily get around on foot in the historic seaside village of Friday Harbor, on the sunrise side of the Island. Though only 1 square mile in size, its authentic downtown streetscape is a perfect place to indulge in the eclectic collection of art galleries, coffeehouses, boutiques and eateries.
